Red Velvet Pancakes with Sweet Cream Cheese Butter

As featured in Southern Living, these Red Velvet Pancakes from the Loveless Cafe are the ultimate breakfast indulgence!

It’s hard to beat red velvet anything  this time of year. Not only does it taste great, but with its bright, cheery red color, it’s also seasonal and festive. Obviously our friends over at Southern Living magazine agree, having created an entire feature on red velvet treats in this month’s holiday issue. Loveless Cafe’s decadent Red Velvet Pancakes with Sweet Cream Cheese But not only fit the red velvet bill, but the Over-the-Top-Christmas-Morning-Pancakes one as well. Light and fluffy pancakes stacked high and topped with the sweetest butter you can imagine will no doubt make anyone’s Christmas morning.




Red Velvet Pancakes




2 cups All-Purpose Flour

1/2 cup Cocoa Powder

1 cup Powdered Sugar

1/2 tsp Baking Powder

1/2 tsp Salt

1/2 tsp Baking Soda

1 1/2 cups Buttermilk

2 Eggs

1/2 cup Granulated Sugar

3  tbsp Red Food Coloring


Sift all dry ingredients except granulated sugar.  Mix eggs, buttermilk, granulated sugar and red food coloring and add dry ingredients to wet ingredients in thirds.  Do not over-mix!


Sweet Cream Cheese Butter




1 cup Butter, softened (2 sticks)

1 8oz pk Cream Cheese, softened

3 cups Powdered Sugar

1 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract


With an electric mixer, whip butter and cream cheese together for 3-5 minutes until smooth, scraping sides to ensure proper blending.  Add vanilla extract and the powdered sugar, one cup at a time until blended.
